An indispensable part of today’s life is a credit card. It’s no joke trying to order tickets for the theatre without your American Express card, if like me you have cancelled it. Without that credit card, I was unable to join the local gym, to order t-shirts off of the Internet, to reserve a plane ticket online - and that is just a few of the basics. It seemed like only a few years ago that cash was the preferred way to get stuff, but those days are long gone now.
We never stop to ask ourselves when using our American Express credit card globally whether or not we need or can afford what we are buying it has become so commonplace. How many people consider the cost of paying later when they have the convenience of having now, when using their American Express credit card. In many places around the world, credit card debts are increasing at a worrying rate. It is not a lie when I say the credit card debts are the biggest worry facing the people in America.
This is the primary reason I decided to cancel my American Express credit card recently. I was getting out of control with my spending because it was just so easy handing over the card. Mounting debts lead me to realize that I had been using my card for everything and anything including food! When the debt became so great that I couldn’t possibly pay it, I began to panic.
To get my debt back into a position where I could pay for it I resorted to using a debt refinancing company. The whole situation was a nightmare. The hardship was worth it though because I am now debt free and my American Express credit card is no more. Many people would think me unfair about blaming a credit card but they need to understand something about people first.
When you have to pay for everything with cash, you are so much more conscious of how much it costs. But like I said before, a credit card made everything way too easy. I would just keep spending, not realizing until all the money was gone. So remember, if you don’t have an American Express card, you don’t have any worries.
